The Land of Limitless Possibilities          Thirty five years ago, there were celebrations across Akwa Ibom state. In every corner of the new state, there were jubilation, excitement and happiness. The struggle for   the creation of a new state from the former   Cross Rivers   State describe in clear term the word   Limitless   Possibility; To some, it was impossible, unimaginable and hold no water but as time unfold, it became a dream comes true. Historically, the story about the birth and creation of Akwa Ibom State will not be completed without giving some huge credit to the formation and formal Inauguration of the Ibibio Union in 1928. The Ibibio Union in 1948 later metamorphosed from being a Cultural association to a national institution, engaging itself in promoting the cause of state creation in Nigeria. Efforts aimed at bringing to stay the hallowed state, Akwa Ibom State, didn’t come as a piece meal, rather, it u...

ASUU STRIKE; WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you have been asking series of questions about the seven month old strike embarked by ASUU without any positive response, this questions and answers segment by Amoka would served as clear answers to some of your questions about the union, ASUU and their strike. ASUU Strike and some of the frequently asked questions... My response to some frequently asked questions on the ASUU strike and the demands. Qn: ASUU has been going on strike since the 80s and has not produced results. Why can't they change tactics? Ans: First-generation universities were established to be able to sustain themselves with time. You can see that from their assets. The coming of the military government in 1966 distorted the plan as education that was still in the developmental stage was pulled out of the priority list of the country by the government. Development in education was relatively stagnant as more universities were established in 1975. The starting structure sustained the first and secon...

Philosophy is Philosophy.

Philosophy is Philosophy.   Raymond Smullyan once wrote a book title " What is the name of This Book ?" First published in 1978 by Prentice-Hall. It appears to be that Prof. Smullyan wanted to confused his Students and his readers starting right from the title of the book since the book was on logical puzzles. Now, let's just imagine ourselves going into a bookshop and asking the attendant "do you have a copy of What is the Name of this book ?", In a polite manner, I think the attendant will respond by asking, "sorry, sir, what is the name of this book you are looking for? Then you respond again " What is The Name of this Book ". So funny it would seems to be, or at worst create an enemity between you and the attendant who perhaps would be seeing you as a silly and ridiculous person. In my attempt to simplify the meaning of Philosophy to the beginners and also to confuse a non-philosophers, I have decided to tag this article "Philoso...

ASUU STRUGGLE; WHO WILL END IT?

The current industrial actions embarked upon by Academic Staff Union of Universities- ASUU will be seven month old on the 14th of  September 2022 and possibly beyond that as no one knows when the union will call off the strike.  Recently it was made known that FG have actually agreed on all issues except on the no work no pay policy(NWNPP). According to the information, the N50bn earned Academic Allowances, will not be released by FG until ASUU resumes work. Also, It was gathered that the government, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), was working on releasing additional N100 billion as revitalization funds to universities.   It was also gathered yesterday that the striking lecturers will be paid their Earned Academic Allowance from the N50 billion released by the federal government only after they have called off their strike. Government said the N50bn was set aside for the university based unions as part of efforts to end the strikes. The story i...
